Legislative Framework

As of October 3rd, 2025, the new Regulation (EU) 2025/1988 gradually bans the use of firefighting foams containing PFAS.

Likewise, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), through the amendment SOLAS Chapter II-2 Regulation 10 (MSC.532 (107)), stipulates that as of January 1st, 2026, the use or storage of PFAS-based foams on board ships is prohibited.

BSM Tech fully supports the transition to environmentally safe firefighting foams and provides certified services for management, cleaning, and replacement of legacy materials.

PFAS Compliance & Environmental Responsibility

BSM Tech Group of Companies implements a complete firefighting foam management, cleaning, and replacement program, in accordance with the latest European and Maritime PFAS Regulations.

The company has developed and maintains a comprehensive PFAS Management Plan, which includes:

Identification, collection, and management of all firefighting foam quantities containing PFAS (EWC 16 03 05).
Certified transport and disposal of materials at authorized hazardous waste facilities, with issuance of a Waste Disposal Certificate.
Cleaning and sampling of foam tanks to demonstrate complete decontamination and prevent cross-contamination in adjacent spaces.
Delivery of tanks in full cleanliness and certified readiness for refilling with new, approved PFAS-free foam.
